This page contains a collection of free and low-cost peer support groups that I’ve come across over time, displayed in a calendar format.
Some important things to note:
- I have not personally “vetted” any of these peer support groups. Many of them may not share values of anti-carceral care, self-determination, and autonomy.
- There is no way for me (a single human) to ensure that all of these peer support groups are still active. They may have shifted their schedules, or have been discontinued all-together. If you come across a group listed on this calendar that is outdated, feel free to let me know using the form at the bottom of this page – I’ll update the calendar when I can so that others can be aware!
- These are certainly not all the groups that are out there! If you’ve found one that’s not on here, feel free to let me know so I can add it 🙂
How can you use this calendar?
I originally put together this calendar because there were often times when I felt unsupported and wanted a higher degree of structure in my life, but found “higher levels of care” (such as IOPs, PHPs, residentials, and inpatient hospitals) to be traumatic, coercive, expensive, and generally inaccessible on many levels.
If this situation applies to you, and you don’t want to or cannot find “care” within the Mental Health Industrial Complex, an alternative can be to put together your own schedule of support spaces. This calendar can be a space to start – you can try out a bunch of the groups on this page, and put them together on a schedule that is as intense or light as you prefer.
Ultimately, anti-carceral, non-coercive, and community-based care should be accessible to all. While this calendar is highly imperfect, and only a stop-gap measure, I hope that it can prove to be a somewhat useful resource in connecting to community and alternative supports.
